A Polish Affair
Now being Ukrainian, you know I know my vodka. Those of you who think that a vodka is a vodka have another thing comin. That’s why I can’t wait till Fermented Friday to talk about Poland’s Select.
Contrary to popular belief and much to my Ukranian dismay, vodka was actually not created in Russia. The history books state that it is originally from Poland and dates back to the eighth century. Legend has it that it was discovered by chance (Halleluiah) and was called “okowita”, a word derived from the Latin phrase “aqua vita” or “water of life” (ain’t that the truth.) It was also used for a variety of purposes from sterilizing cuts to reducing fever. I mean sure we can still use vodka for sterilization but aren’t we glad they came to their senses and made it drinkable so we can sterilize the soul as well?
True to its Polish roots, Poland’s Select is made from 100% rye grain, distilled six times, and filtered five in only the highest quality distilleries. It is the rye that gives it that silky smooth taste and soft finish. If its inner quality weren’t enough, Poland’s Select comes in a stylish streamline crystal blue bottle with a glass cork. How fabulous is that? On top of everything, its price point is extremely BUDGALICIOUS!!
I highly recommend you give it a try. To help you out, I’ve included some recipes that are simply smaczny (tasty.)
