I love the Falchi’s!!!!!
Not only are they favorites in my personal life but I have been obsessed with their accessories since I was a kid. My mother had a copy of a Carlos Falchi bag. Honey, that’s old school.
I met Carlos and Kate (one of his two DEREK FABULOUS daughters) professionally through Derek Loves Shopping. DLS was brand new last year and our web series was just starting to get noticed. They were very kind to me and let me into their offices to film. The episode was incredible because as many now know they do a very special limited edition series of bags for Bergdorf Goodman and Kate does all of the hand painting. The episode was literally she and I, sleeves rolled up painting actual snakeskins… an episode I will always remember!! Since then I have met Carlos’ wife Missy and their other daughter Juliet. They handle their family just like Carlos handles his work, with love and passion.
The Falchi’s premiere their brand new collection today at Bergdorf’s. The inspiration stems from Kate’s longtime love of Indian culture. This new fall collection is special because of its use of henna and tiger snake and merges the classic “Falchi” boho chic with the new asymmetrics that were seen heavily on the runway for fall 2010/11. What I love most about Kate’s collaboration with her father is the fusing of the two generations. Carlos is famous for his 1960′s bohemian roots (he started making leathers for Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger) and his use of patchworks where Kate is a modernist who really understands the use of clean lines along with a whimsical handmade feel.
