Decor Tips for Your 4th of July Celebration

By Natasha Senko

July 4th celebrations are coming our way this weekend.  When we thing of July 4th we automatically think of fireworks, barbecues and outdoor fun along with the decor that goes with it.  There are many ways to decorate with a red, white and blue theme.  Below are a few cute ideas I’ve come across lately.

Decorative Drink Buckets:  Nothing beats a cold drink on a hot day.  This is an easy way to make your drink bucket patriotic in no time.

What you need:

1. Red or blue enameled buckets
2. White craft paint
3. Star stencils of various sizes
4. Masking tape
5. Artist’s paint brush

What to do:

Tape down stencil edges on to the bucket. Fill in the stars with white paint and wait for it to dry completely.  Fill bucket with ice and your favorite cold beverages.

Fireworks Table Runner: A decorative table runner is always a nice added touch to any holiday decor and July 4th is no exception.

What you need:

1. White table runner that fits your tabletop
2. Red and blue fabric paint
3. Two ktichen scrub brush with bristles

What to do:

Lay out the table runner flat on to the table.  Pour out a little of the red and blue paint on to separate paper plates.  Dip the on of the scrub brushes into one of the paint colors and firmly press the bristles on to the runner.  Repeat in a haphazard fireworks pattern across the runner.  Let dry completely before setting it out.

Decorative Candle Holders: We usually start off our 4th of July celebration in the afternoon but everyone knows that the party will go into the evening so we can see the fireworks.  This will require some outdoor lighting once the sun goes down.

What you need:

1. Several Glass cylinder vases about 4 to 6 inches in diameter and equally as high
2. White pillar candles
3. Red and blue ribbon
4. Double stick tape
5. Scissors

What to do:

Cut the ribbon into pieces long enough to wrap around the diameter of the vase, leaving about an inch crossover.  Take a small piece of double stick tape and affix one end of a piece of red ribbon to the glass just about half way up. Wrap the ribbon around the vase adding another piece of tape to the inside of the other end of the ribbon so you don’t see the tape.  Repeat with the blue ribbon above the red.  Finish by placing a pillar candle in the center of the vase.
