Get Tarted Up and Love the Planet!

By Justin St. Clair

Yep, that’s right: it’s GREEN month here at DLS! Though it’s one of the causes dearest to my heart, when it comes to make-up, most products on the market have a whole lot of nasty in them. Don’t just take my word for it: www.safecosmentics.org and www.cosmeticsdatabase.com will give you the exhaustive lowdown on what’s going on your face.

But today there is good news: thanks to an evolution in consciousness, pressure from concerned consumers like you and me, and companies with progressive spirit, looking after ourselves, the planet, and our economy can finally go hand in hand! Here’s how.

This week’s Green pick:  Tarte – Natural Lip Stain Pencil

Thanks to Maureen Kelly, the self-proclaimed beauty addict who founded Tarte in 1999 and her team, we all now have the option of easily choosing make-up that is not only “green” but high performance, and housed in hot packaging that’s worth revealing, and recycling.

Honey, this pencil is what women (and a few men) want. And why?

  1. The color lasts for hours on end.
  2. It has a lovely glossy finish that’s sexy but not sticky, or too tarty (forgive the pun).
  3. It’s clinically proven to increase lip moisture by 6000%. So lips are not only moisturized but plumped up, without feeling like you rubbed a pepper on them.
  4. Its natural! That means formulated without: parabens, petro-chemicals, phylates, sulfates, preservatives, glycols, gluten, talc, GMOs.  It has a natural fragrance and is dermatologist tested.
  5. And get this. Drum roll please!!  . . . . . No sharpener needed!! All you have to do is twist the base of the pencil to advance the tip.

Now speaking from experience I have to say I love, love, love these pencils. They come in 6 shades (available exclusively at Sephora stores and online at www.sephora.com). My personal faves: Enchanted (a warm pink) and Moody (a brandy berry). They are sheer tints that enhance your lovely smackers and really do last awfully long.

Perhaps you’re not a tarte, or perhaps you are. But I’d say definitely consider becoming an “Enchanted” Tartelette; your lips, your audience, and perhaps even your mojo, will thank you for it!
