“The Collective” Effort to be Green

Completely recycled materials and restaurants; not exactly what you think would go hand in hand.  NOT the case with The Collective, a new restaurant located in New York City’s infamous Meat Packing District.  Amidst the now trendy streets and FAB boutiques of an area once used strictly for the distribution of the City’s meat, I guess you can say that a restaurant who’s every bit of furniture is created from reclaimed materials, actually has something in common with its now chic locale; they are both salvaging things the city once used for something else.

Yet another delectable creation from The One Group, the brain children behind such restaurants as the uber-chic Coco de Ville and the multi-citied STK, just to name a few, has coupled with the design geniuses at ICrave, to create a fully recycled, reworked “work” of art at The Collective.  With chairs made from street signs, light fixtures created from empty pill bottles, and couches fashioned from old bathtubs, The Collective is made of 100% completely salvaged materials-all from the New York area.  ICrave collected (pun completely intended) their design supplies from flea markets, Craigslist, and my favorite, the garbage (what I sweetly refer to as Trashy Treasures) to create 4-5 living/dining rooms throughout the space.

If this amazingly green and oh so BUDGALICIOUS concept is not enough, the varied menu of delicious treats is sure to please.  The Collective is open late morning up into the wee hours of the night, so whether you’re up for brunch or stumbling out of one of the many famous Meat Packing watering holes on any given eve, there is plenty of time to discover The Collective’s many menu combinations.

You can visit The Collective at 1 Little West 12^th Street in New York City.    Although not specifically classified and community service, your support of a restaurant that has made a conscious effort to make our city a better place is definitely DEREK FABULOUS!!
