Fun in the Sun: the Denim Short

By Martha Alburquerque, Founder: lelaluxe.com

When you think about summer, probably the first look that comes to mind is a cute top with some awesome fitting shorts, or as Katy Perry says in this year’s summer tune, “daisy dukes, bikinis on top”.

The most common shorts are probably denim and now that designers are experimenting a little more and women are looking to embrace the idea of the short a bit more, there are myriads of styles on the market.

Some styles may even be suitable for work when worn correctly.  Like the long shorts pictured above.  These are by Express and when paired up with a nice fitted blazer, button-up shirt and sleek black pumps you may get away with it as office attire depending where you work.  When shorts have a more clean wash and simple hemming, always go for mid-sized heels.  Save for your 4 inchers for your really short shorts.

Like the one above by American Eagle Outfitters. These cuties will go great with your platform heels, with flats, and you can definitely spice them up a little more (as if they need it!) with some sexy gladiators.

The third pair of shorts by James Jeans are the quintessential blue denim shorts. Not too short, not too long.  These are the shorts you would wear to your family BBQ or to the club with a dazzling shirt.

It’s really important to find the right fit.  We want to prevent the good ‘ol camel toe and the riding up, you also don’t want the hems to cut your circulation.  There is a fit out there for everyone.  The key is to try on many brands and styles as possible.  Shorts have the attitude of regular jeans.  One brand of daisy duke length shorts may fit you terrible, while another may look divine.  Make sure to go with time when you’re out shopping for shorts.  Sometimes it’s even easier to find shorts and jeans alike when you dedicate a shopping rendezvous specifically to searching for your perfect jeans or shorts.

These are staples to your wardrobe, so it’s worth your time and extra effort.
