Have Style Will Travel: Be a (Green) Valley Girl at Napa’s Bardessono
By Kimberlie Birks
If four Michelin-starred restaurants (including the fabulous French Laundry) and the nearby wineries of Robert Mondavi, Domaine Chandon and Francis Ford Coppola aren’t enough to whet your appetite, perhaps recent boutique hotel newcomer Bardessono will seal your Napa deal and have you heading for the valley.
Don’t be fooled by the understated appearance of the Bardessono family’s six –acre Yountville farmstead; claiming the title of the ‘greenest luxury hotel in America,’ Bardessono possesses some powerful eco-bling. Built to adhere to LEED’s (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) most rigorous standards, the 62-room boutique hotel incorporates rammed earth walls, grey and black water treatment systems, solar and geothermal energy, salvaged cypress wood, organic hand-loomed bedding and towels, and a restaurant based on local, farm-fresh ingredients.
Bardessono pampers its guests as much as it does the environment. Every room is a suite complete with a fireplace and a small landscaped garden or balcony. Soaking tubs for two, outdoor showers, dual indoor shower-steam rooms, and In Fiore skincare products transform your room into a Zen-like oasis you’ll never want to leave. Thankfully you won’t have to: the room service menu also includes any of their spa treatments.
Luckily, there is plenty to lure you out of your room. The hotel offers yoga classes, wine tastings on the weekends, and carbon fiber bicycles for self-guided tours. Custom wine country adventures, cooking classes and private tasting excursions will provide just the right amount of activity before you retreat to the rooftop poolside cabanas to survey the panoramic valley view and contemplate your in-room massage and dinner at the French Laundry.
I’ll drink to that.
