Have Style Will Travel: Everything’s Waiting for You at New York’s Crosby Street Hotel

Petula Clark didn’t have the Crosby Street Hotel in mind when she sang her Grammy-winning hit Downtown, but she could have.  At this New York newcomer, the newest member of London’s Firmdale Group family of undeniably stylish hotels, things are definitely great when you’re downtown.

London design diva Kit Kemp has done it again with this 86-room confection that brings the spirit of London’s Soho to a cobblestoned lane in the other Soho. Nestled Between
Spring and Prince, just steps from both Broadway and Keith McNally’s uber-popular resto Balthazar, the hotel feels both a part of, and apart from, its neighborhood.  It is the ideal
way be both private and central.  Added to this, Kemp’s interiors bring both cutting edge style and a personal touch, along with plenty of color and great art.

The lobby, with its cozy drawing room and restaurant has quickly become a local favorite, as has the private movie theater with plush velvet seats on the lower level.  Each room has its own individual décor: luxurious fabric wall coverings are contrasted by beautifully patterned headboards, and silk curtains that soften the steel warehouse windows. The verdant interior courtyard is the perfect retreat, but for real luxury, opt for the suite with the 360-degree skyline view and private rooftop garden.

Though the stylish touches might lure you in, it’s the service that will win you over: which is exactly what you need when you come back, your arms laden with shopping bags, from a little neighborhood stroll.
