TURQUOISE

No, not the stone, the color!! Nothing says nautical like the translucent color of the seas on the equatorial belt. Whether in Bali or Barbados the lustrous turquoise waters of this region have the ability to silence our minds, relieve our bodies, and transport our souls. The magic of make-up has given us yet again another one of its infinite choices. That is, the ability to recall, and experience through the use of color.

On the beach, cruising on a yacht, or bustling around your local neighborhood: this color is still perfect. In fact, it may sound counter-intuitive but turquoise, in my humble opinion, is one of the few colors that looks great on any skin tone, and can be worn by a person of any age when applied sensitively.

My favorite turquoise application is a wash of color around the eye. With cream or powder eye shadow I recommend a sheer wash of color applied with a large eye shadow blending brush. Follow with a turquoise pencil, or use a small eye shadow brush to apply a dense coat of color close to the lash lines, both upper and lower, and then blend outward. A great variation for a more subtle look can be achieved by using a turquoise pencil or shadow just above the upper lashes in a line to shape the eyes. Depending on your preference you can make those lines sharp and perfect, or diffused and soft (well blended).

For a wild and adventurous look consider turquoise lips (!). If you want to stand out and yell your arrival, that blue-green-blue may just be the right way to smack it to your audience. If you’re lucky enough to find a turquoise lipstick then smear it on. However, those can be hard to find. Instead use a soft turquoise eye pencil to line and fill the lips in, then follow with gloss. Great look for the artist in you, so get wild!

Here are a couple of my turquoise favs!!

MAC Cosmetics To The Beach Eye Kohl, A fantastic dark green turquoise

What a color!! Line and go!

shu uemura Pressed Eye Shadow, ME 665 – Matte Electric Blue

This color is so beautiful and pigment rich you may want to paint more than just yourself with it: suddenly turquoise walls sound like a great idea! It is beautiful on all skin tones and particularly good for medium to dark skin tones. This is quite possibly my favorite eye shadow ever!!
