Navy Scents, Just for Boys

By Danielle De Feo

Marine is hot this season for men as well as women, and this gives guys a good opportunity to refresh their summer scent. I’ve got ways for Navy types and Beach Boys.

Navy: it looks good on everyone, but men in Navy? We love them! A classic, clean cut image with a sultry edge: it’s what a lot of men seem to want in a fragrance but have a hard time getting right. If you are one of the offenders over-spraying with a less than stellar fragrance trying to smell nice and clean…we won’t tell, but it’s time to shape up!

With Navy, you basically have two options. You can go CLASSIC with a clean, sharp fougere fragrance, that combines hay, moss, lavender and musk, Equipage by Hermes would be a good example or you can go for something clean, strong and acquatic. For something naughtier try L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Fou d’Absinthe which brings the recent trend for the scent of the controversial liquor to an upstanding fougere.

If you want to splurge on a masculine acquatic, may I suggest Acqua di Sale by Italian brand Profumum? It transports the wearer to a beach with a saltiness tempered by soft wood and stems of myrtle, with a very very light sweetness in the background. Brilliant and sexy too.

There is one fragrance that balances fougere and aquatic really well: Fougeres Marine by Montale brings a breeze of ocean air to clumps of traditional lavender.

If you are a Beach Boy you’re a bon vivant, loving the sun. If you’re looking for something classic, that evokes the Riviera or Italian beaches in the 50’s you can’t go wrong with Acqua di Parma.

It’s citrus at first, then aromatic blending in cedar and lavender: classy and the favourite of celebrities of today and yesteryear alike.

Apart from the classic cologne it is now available in an “intense” version and there are plenty of accoutrements in the scent, so if you are worried about getting sweaty during the day, you have a lot of options to stay fresh. Plus AdP’s Blu Mediterraneo line has fantastic Myrtle and Fig scents for Beach Boys wanting something with a little more humour. Have a look at the Acqua di Parma boutique at Sephora.com.
