Sun-Shine Superstars
By Danielle De Feo
Thanks to our beauty section you strut out with the perfect make up, the perfect fragrance, and bronzed skin to go with it all. Your hair should be glossily glistening in the sun too….shouldn’t it?
Here’s some tricks old and new to get gleaming no matter what. For Normal to Greasy Hair Here’s a BUDGALICIOUS home remedy. A very good friend introduced me to this cheap, natural Indian solution to get a clean, healthy scalp and shiny hair: yogurt. Buy a large tub of natural yogurt (bio/live, and absolutely no sugar or flavorings or E numbers) and apply a few handfuls to dry hair, rubbing through and making sure that all your hair is covered: your yogurt is going to act as a hair mask. Pin in place and wrap your head up in a showercap or towel for an hour or so, then wash out, shampooing as normal. It may sound odd but you *will* have a squeaky clean scalp and shiny, shiny hair. Good for everybody except vegans. Sorry vegans! For Everybody I love Ojon. The products aren’t cheap but they are worth every penny. No matter who you are or where you are this summer, have a tube of Ojon’s Leave-in Glossing Cream on hand. It tames moderate frizzies and leaves you glossier in one step. Use with Ojon’s Shine and Protect Glossing Mist to up the shine and protect against UV damage. For Dry Hair (you know who you are) Dry hair types, I sympathize. I know how it feels to spend what seems like a lifetime lavishing attention on every strand only to find it frizzy and dull. So, here are a few ideas to help you out. If your dry tips are standing between you and shine perfection, try this: Cocoa butter, in stick form, is available from any drugstore. Not only is this purse-sized convenience great for moisturizing post-shaving, avoiding stretch marks, and smoothing rough elbows, it is great as an everyday over-night conditioner for your hair’s dry ends. Warm some on your hands and rub over the ends of your hair. Wash out normally in the morning. It works, it’s BUDGALICIOUS, and you end up smelling like white chocolate. In larger doses it works to condition African hair types too (especially in combination with raw shea butter). If you have dry hair, you will be tired of using a product that makes your hair *look* conditioned and shiny for a few hours and then washes off to reveal the same dry mess you started with. It cheated! We don’t like that. For a nourishing finisher, try Tui Jojoba and Shea Butter Hair Sheen by Carol’s Daughter. This shine spritz does the job without parabens, sulfates or dyes. It does have a great scent and works on all but the thickest of hair. We love that.
