Derek's Obsessions
The Search for a Great Watch
by: DFab
Since we are all about Back To Basics this month, I wanted to bring up the subject of watches. Everyone should have a good watch in their wardrobe.
This is not a subject that should be taken lightly. For many, the gift of a good watch is given as milestone to adulthood through a graduation gift or for an 18th or 21st Birthday.
We at DLS think that THE WATCH to own is the Cartier Tank. Not only is it chic but it withholds the test of time.
Whenever I’m out shopping, which is…..ok, everyday, and find myself in a quandary over a purchase, I ask the same question EVERY time. “Is this a 10 year purchase?” If the answer is no, I move on. If the answer is yes, I start clipping coupons and figure out if I can get some Ramen Noodles on sale at the local market.
I GOTTA HAVE IT….
You all know I’m always here to HELP so here is my answer to the Top 3 questions I get asked about when buying a watch.
1. Silver or Gold??? When it comes to this age-old question, it depends on your jewelry preference and/or your skin tone. I always suggest buying a 2 tone, silver and gold. A watch is not something to change everyday. A really good watch could cost as much as a Mercedes. Make sure it can go in any direction.
2. How much is too much??? A good watch can cost a fortune!! Make sure you love it and don’t go it alone. Bring a loved one that has brutal taste. I hate shopping with people like that, but we all have one… “you look fat in that” or “that color is awful on you.” This is the one time to leave the GBFF at home. He thinks everything you do and buy is FABULOUS!!! Ms. Brutal, on the other hand, is going to break it down for you and let you know whether you are wasting money or trying to hard.
3. How do I know if the watch is too big or too small??? This is a very good question. Sometimes it’s just a matter of taste. I think a petite person is the only one that can wear a small-faced watch. The trend now is to go BIG. However, if you are making a major purchase, I think the oversized look is not the answer. Major money should go to classics especially when it is an everyday wear.
