Earn your Green Stripes

By Martha Alburquerque

Let’s face it, many times it’s difficult to grab that dress made by the eco-friendly line because either 1. it either feels like sand paper or too flimsy or 2. it just doesn’t look female friendly.  However, times are changing and more labels are creating ultra-fashionable collections that
will subside the environmentally conscious fashion heads that love to look fabulous as well.  For example, eco-fashion designer Samantha Pleet introduced her Spring 2010 collection featuring a red striped dress.  Stripes were everywhere during the Spring 2010 runway shows, even in Paris….even at Louis Vuitton.

Take a look at Louis Vuitton’s red striped dress and that of Samantha Pleet’s and you’ll see it’s petty close.  So here’s a chance to say fashionably on track while also sticking to your eco-friendly living.  Louis Vuitton’s resort collection had a bodacious nautical feel appropriate for The Riviera.  Now you can strut your stuff on the same boardwalk as Louis’ coquettes and be eco-fashionable too.

I know many women shun away from vertical stripes, fearing the subliminal addition of 4 inches, however if you have the confidence and the body to rock them…this is the time to do it!  It’s also a fun pattern to use when wanting to add a splash of color.  If you’re feeling self-conscious about wearing stripes, but still want to don them, try getting a top light enough to throw under a boyfriend blazer or a vest.  Another great tip is too add layers of necklaces that will help deflect the eyes away from your midsection (the only place those 4 inches tend to magically appear) and towards your upper body.
