Two Men and a Baby

Sir Elton John and David Furnish with their new baby Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John.

Music legend Sir Elton John and his partner, Film Director, David Furnish, were on the front cover of Us Weekly on Wednesday with their new stud muffin Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. Us Weekly got an exclusive interview and photos of the new baby. Little Zachary was born via surrogate on Christmas Day 2010.

The couple is so happy! Elton John tells US Weekly how it felt to hold his son for the first time:

“I’ve never felt anything like it in my life, you’re so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing … I will never forget that experience ever.”

Zachary was born a healthy 7 pounds, 15-inches. Of course Us Weekly asked the juicy question everyone wanted to know! The do you want Zachary to be gay or straight question and David Furnish said:

“He’s healthy and happy and loved” and that neither daddy cares if their little boy grows up to be gay or straight.”

I’m happy for them! Why shouldn’t they be able to have a family like everyone else? They’re capable of doing virtually everything that a typical “normal” family can. However, not everyone is happy for the new family. Controversy broke out on Wednesday, January 26, when the magazine hit the stands. A Harps supermarket in Mountain View, Arkansas censored the US Weekly cover and believed it was “inappropriate for young Harps shoppers.” But what was soo inappropriate about it? No body parts or vile language were on the cover! The store placed a “family shield” in front of the magazine, which is usually used for magazines like Playboy or Hustler.

One brave soul used twitter the right way, and brought attention to the issue! Jennifer Huddleston posted the censored magazine on twitter. She tweeted the photo to prominent leaders in the Gay and Lesbian community like Anderson Cooper, and Ellen DeGeneres to bring notice to the stores controversial decision. Soon there was uproar in the LGBT community. Harps’ response was that their decision in no way reflects their opinion on the issue. In fact they added, “We do not have an opinion on this issue.”

Kudos to  @Jennhudd for speaking up and taking a stand! We need more positive people like her on twitter.

Tweet me or Derek your opinions and don’t forget to comment!!!

Xoxo

I’m all for it if they can take care of the child why not?!! Society gets so caught up in sexuality that they tend to forget the core values of family and none of those values include the sex of the parents. A child can be gay or straight no matter what their parents are. Overall great writing and I look forward to hearing more from Ms. Grant.

There are so many children in this world who are born into ‘traditional’ families that are many times not provided with the love, guidance, and support that they need. Our society focuses too much on money and ‘tradition’. Yet with our ‘traditions’ we only pick and choose what’s convenient for us at that time.

In my opinion, I would rather see a child with two loving or one loving parent, no matter the sex, ethnicity, or family make-up, that provide that child with all the necessities one needs to become a functioning member of society! I think we need to realize that love is love. As a society, we need to stop trying to define what a family is, and what love is. Family and love have different meanings for everyone. What works for one, may not work for the next.

LOVE THIS .. TOTALLY SUPPORT ANY GAY ADOPTION.. ITS ABOUT THE LOVE IN A FAMILY / AND THE PARENTAL CARE.. NOT THE SEX OF THE PARENT..

Of course this article was going to cause an uproar. Elton is one of the most successful artist today, and people will always need something or someone to talk about, so why not Sir Elton. I believe that everyone no mater what ethnicity or sexuality should be able to practice whatever they want freely. Of course this goes back to the U.S Constitution, where we(Americans) earned those rights. I think people are so tense about him and his family because they cannot accept the fact that he is gay and want to have a structured family like the average Americans. At the end of the day, I believe Elton and David will love Zachary and will be the best parents ever. Elton can adopt me if he wanted to, I wouldnt mind. A lot of kids today don’t and won’t feel that parnetal love that these two beautiful people will provide for their son. People just need to accept this or turn the other way. Regardless of what we do in society, there will always be someone to criticize and oppose the things you do…I just wish them the best.
