Yoga: Bring Your Practice to the Beach
By Natasha Senko
Practiced for over 5,000 years, yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj” and has multiple meanings such as “to control”, “to yoke,” or “to unite”. Outside of India, yoga is associated with Hatha Yoga and its asanas or poses. The health benefits of yoga are tremendous. It aids in increased flexibility, building muscle strength, lubricating and increasing your range of motion in joints and ligaments, and basically massages all your body’s organs. Aside from physical benefits, the mental benefits are amazing as well.
No doubt you know the positive effects that yoga has on the body and mind (or at least you do now) but summer is upon us so one of the best and most tranquil places to do your practice is at the beach. There is nothing like early morning or sunset yoga on the beach to help you regroup. What better place to become one with yourself? There’s just something about being in nature that makes your practice that much better.
So go ahead and bring your practice outdoors. What, you don’t live by an ocean? Lakes have beaches too. The simplest way to find a location near you is to google. You will be Zen in no time. Namaste.
